As we've just mentioned, your faithful editor is moving into her first home this weekend, and after sanding, stripping (paint, you cheeky thing!) and painting, I'll also be somehow organising my tremendous collection of lingerie. To tackle this Herculean feat, I'm going to need some help from the furniture gods, and I've outlined my options to help fellow lingerie lovers:
1: Francais-Fabulous
First, let's go grand. If i had lots of dosh and the
available floor space, my first choice would be a grand semainier, or a chest
with seven drawers ("semanier" is rooted in the french word for "week"). It's
kind of a grown-up version of Day Of the Week knickers, except this version is
antique French Louis-Philippe and costs about $5,000. Maybe we should
stick with just the knickers, actually.
2: Elegant and attainable
Moving slightly towards levels of reality, I could
always indulge in a lingerie chest, which is a tall chest of drawers like a
semainier, but can have any number of drawers. You'll typically find that
lingerie chests have segmented drawers, allowing you to easily tuck away your
frillies into organised compartments. There are any variety of lingerie chests
available, from fancy-looking
french varieties ranging in the thousands, to
modern, equally elegant versions available in the hundreds (pictured
above). If you don't fancy the old-worldie look, you can indulge in this bright
and beautiful
New England lingerie chest, where you can customise everything from the
type of drawer pulls to the type of bevel used on the edges.
3: Cheap and cheerful
This is all very lovely, but I've got paint to buy,
vans to hire, and utility deposits to pay - maybe there's a cheaper solution
for keeping my knickers in place? Finally, I settled on some clever drawer
organisers that are decidedly less elegant, but much more reasonable for my
bank account. My favourite are these
cute little velvety organisers you can order in three different sizes
for only $9 each, but there are all
kinds of different options at this website to suit your own needs, from
bra organisers to sock/stocking inserts.
It hardly seems fair that a lingerie expert has to
settle for drawer inserts, but maybe some of you can indulge in some of the
more glamorous options. Whatever you use, organising your lingerie is a quick
and easy way to avoid a heap of twisted bra hooks and pantyhose, so get
organising!
